TruSpeed Motorsports Gets 2010 Season Off to a Rousing Start
In the SCCA World Challenge GT Point Standings
Team Looks Forward to 'Home' Race in Long Beach
COSTA MESA, Calif., April 14 - Two of TruSpeed Motorsports' drivers are in
the top 10 of the SCCA World Challenge GT point standings heading into their
"home" race, the Grand Prix of Long Beach. After the team's solid showing
at the recent season opener at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix, the team is in
prime position to stay ahead of the field at the upcoming race being held
this weekend, April 16-18, in Long Beach, Calif.
The professional racing team is a division of TruSpeed, the largest
independent Porsche dealer in the United States. While the racing team works out of
the World Challenge paddock at Long Beach, the TruSpeed sales and service
groups will have a display inside the Convention Center.
TruSpeed driver Patrick Lindsey finished fourth in the season opener March
27 on the street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla. He recorded the best finish
for the team at that event. He was involved in an accident in the second
half of the St. Petersburg doubleheader, however, so it is Rob Morgan who
holds the highest position for the team in the early point standings. The
latter recorded eighth- and sixth-place finishes at St. Petersburg and now sits
eighth in the point standings, while Lindsey is tenth.
TruSpeed Motorsports' Charles Morgan was the model of consistency at St.
Petersburg with two 11th-place finishes. He is 13th in the overall point
standings going into Long Beach.
The action is sure to be as intense at Long Beach as it was at the
season-opening doubleheader at St. Petersburg.
Lindsey started eighth in the 31-car field for the first race at St.
Petersburg in the No. 57 Porsche 911 GT3 sponsored by TruSpeed, Horton Autosport
and Sloan Securities. All three classes (GT, GTS and Touring Car) ran
simultaneously at this event, so the traffic was heavy. Lindsey got off to a great
standing start, passing two cars by the end of lap one to advance to sixth
place, where he stayed for much of the race.
He made his move with just three laps to go in Turn 1 and it stuck, with
Lindsey getting fourth behind only the winner, Randy Pobst; Andy Pilgrim and
James Sofronas. "It was my first race in a Porsche and my first street race,
so we were really pleased with fourth in our first outing," Lindsey said
later.
Rob Morgan in the No. 46 Porsche got a great start and by lap two he had
moved up two positions in TruSpeed's flagship 911 GT3 and was running in ninth
place. "I had fuel pick-up problems throughout the race," Morgan explained
afterwards. "But I had a quick car. My fastest race lap was just off the
fastest lap of the race. We'll work on improving our qualifying, and I feel
confident we'll be right in there." In the end, Morgan settled for sixth place.
His father, veteran racer Charles Morgan, had the task of breaking in the
team's brand-new Porsche. He qualified 15th but encountered problems early in
the race, dropping him to 24th. He steadily made his way back through the
field and he took the checkered in 11th position. His No. 47 is sponsored by
PrivacyStar, a Blackberry application that provides users with a privacy
solution for unwanted calls.
With such a strong showing, the team is anticipating even better results at
the upcoming Grand Prix of Long Beach. "After St. Pete, we're
super-confident in the cars and the TruSpeed/Horton group, and we're looking forward to
the 'show' aspect and racing on our home turf," Lindsey said.
The Long Beach Grand Prix schedule shows practice sessions at 4:20 p.m.
Friday and 7:15 a.m. Saturday for the World Challenge cars. Qualifying is
slated for 8:25 a.m. Sunday, with the race following the IZOD IndyCar race at
approximately 4:14 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
